A series of essays concerning practical measures for combating resistance to biocides in natural populations of arthropods, fungi and weeds is presented in this volume. The papers are derived from an international symposium organized by the Pesticide Group and the Physiochemical and Biophysical Panel of The Society of the Chemical Industry. The contributors emphasize strategies that have been applied in field situations and critically appraise the fundamental knowledge underlying the strategies. They identify areas where new information is urgently required, especially in connection with the evolution of polygenically controlled resistance. Problems of herbicide resistance in important grass weeds of cereals are also described.
